Balchem Italia supplies quality products into Europe and throughout the world to a variety of end-use markets Overview: Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Sr Cost Accountant will perform the cost accounting function for the manufacturing sites and/or other supply chain related cost areas under specified area of responsibility. Responsibilities include executing, overseeing, and reviewing all cost accounting entries according to company policies and conforming to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, reporting and ensuring controls are followed and in full compliance with SOX requirements. Responsible for analyzing and explaining cost variances, working with plant management to understand and address costs within manufacturing, supply chain and logistics, preparing and managing standards, accounting for inventory, supporting CAPEX, and making recommendations for improvements across manufacturing areas, where relevant. Will actively participate in and contribute to the transition to a new ERP system over the coming two years. This role interacts closely with cost accounting peers and the manufacturing site leadership teams, and will share and deploy best practices and agreed approaches. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Inventory and Standard Costing
  • Develops and maintains Bill of Materials for manufactured products for all plants under area of responsibility as required
  • Proactively analyzes variances and communicate issues and opportunities to senior and operations management
  • Develops and maintains metrics and tracking system for major cost drivers
  • Coordinates the monthly reconciliation of all inventory general ledger accounts to the perpetual inventory reports
  • Prepares and maintains slow moving inventory analysis for all plants within area of responsibility
  • Works with appropriate production and commercial personnel, ensure adequate inventory reserves are maintained
  • Coordinates the annual physical inventory count and any other physical counts, as needed
  • Prepares and enters daily journal entries related to plant production on timely basis
  • Analyzes and reconciles general ledger account balances
  • Prepares expense account analysis as needed
  • Collects, analyzes and summarizes account information
  • Reviews cost accountants journal entries, variance and expense analysis, reconciliations, and inventory reserves analysis, as needed
  • Financial Reporting
  • Assists in the preparation of all monthly financial reports (income and departmental statements) for management review
  • Performs month-end cost accounting close functions
  • Assists in the monthly financial statement consolidation and preparation of reporting for Supply Chain leadership
  • Reviews and analyze production variance and purchase price variance accounts on a monthly basis; Make corrections as necessary and report results to management
  • Reviews and analyze logistics, distribution and other supply chain related costs on a monthly basis
